The Completion and Operation of the First Environmental Monitoring Laboratory Facility at Paloch oil field in South Sudan.

In February 2023, the first Environmental Monitoring laboratory for Air Quality, water and soil analysis in South Sudan oil field was put into use in the East Africa Company camp of China Petroleum Engineering and Construction Company at PALOCH, DPOC oil field.

SIPET Engineering & Consultancy Service Co. Ltd (SPECS) got the award of Environmental Monitoring Services contract of DPOC with excellent technology, quality training services, reasonable quotation stood out among the top five competitors. Immediately after the award, the elite technical team were organized to systematically learn the international norms and industry standards of the entire project, sort out the subject categories of testing, analysis, purchase experimental equipment, drugs, and deploy trained professionals. The team is made up well educated, professional qualification certificate and experience personnel which includes registered environmental impact assessment engineer, environmental monitoring technician, geotechnical engineer, cleaner production auditor with vase knowledge of use of chemical analysis instruments and experimental operation.

Environmental Monitoring Services include:

Air Quality: sulfur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen oxides (NOx), Carbon Monoxide (CO), particulate matter (TSP, PM10, PM2.5), volatile organic gases (VOCs).

Surface water: pH, dissolved oxygen (DO), chemical oxygen demand (COD), petroleum, turbidity (NTU), ammonia nitrogen (NH3-N), suspended matter (SS).

Drinking water: pH, dissolved oxygen (DO), total dissolved solids (TDS), total hardness, Bacteria, iron (Fe), zinc (Zn), aluminum (Al), residual chlorine (Cl), ammonia nitrogen (NH3-N), volatile phenol.

Produced wastewater: pH, chemical oxygen demand (COD), total dissolved solids (TDS), Total hardness, petroleum, turbidity (NTU), zinc (Zn), lead (Pb), chromium (Cr), nickel (Ni), ammonia nitrogen (NH3-N), suspended matter (SS), volatile phenol.

Groundwater: total dissolved solids (TDS), total hardness, turbidity, petroleum, zinc (Zn), lead (Pb), chromium (Cr), nickel (Ni), volatile phenol.

Soil analysis items: pH, petroleum hydrocarbons, zinc (Zn), lead (Pb), chromium (Cr), nickel (Ni), cadmium (Cd), mercury(Hg), arsenic(As), vanadium(V), Organic matter, Soil nitrogen(N), phosphorus(P), potassium(K).

The laboratory was inspected and approved by the Ministry of Environmental Protection of South Sudan, Production and HSE Department in DPOC. This will be the only engineering laboratory in the field of national environment monitoring in South Sudan, with the aims to help the Ministry of Environmental Protection of South Sudan and the local government to scientifically understand the actual situation of the environment in the region, scientifically evaluate and analyze the corresponding policy means to control the environment. At the same time, local staff will be trained to continuously improve the operation level of environmental monitoring instruments and equipment which will Contribute to a bluer healthy sky and cleaner water in South Sudan.
